Padayappa, a mechanical engineer whose father gives up his property to his foster brother, and then dies of shock soon after. Neelambari initially loves Padayappa, but plans to humiliate him after his family humiliates her father. The rest of the plot deals with Padayappa overcoming all the obstacles placed by Neelambari.

Set in the late 18th century during the early stages of the British Raj, the film tells the story of twin brothers separated at birth. Pulikesi XXIII, the foolish elder brother, becomes a puppet of his uncle, the Chief Minister, while Ukraputhan, the wise younger brother, becomes a patriot intent on saving his land and his brother.

A policeman accepts bribes from corrupt politicians and local thugs to help them in their illegal work. However, he decides to correct his mistakes after he falls in love with a woman.

hulasi (Saravanan), an orphan, works as a peon in an engineering college. He and the college professor Devi (Tharsha), who hails from a rich family, fall in love with each other and they get married secretly. However, their marriage is rejected by Devi's father (Nizhalgal Ravi), a powerful minister, and the two then go live in Chennai. Six years later, Thulasi and Devi don't have children thus Devi feels depressed about it. Thereafter, Devi becomes pregnant and gives birth to a baby boy but the doctor tells them that Devi's womb was damaged after childbirth and she cannot have another child.

Rocky is looked down upon by his father and spends all his time in a mechanic shop. Problems arise in his life after he falls in love with Gayathri.

Anbarasu, young and arrogant, and Nallasivam, damaged - physically but not spiritually - by life, are thrown together by circumstances, and find that they are in some ways bound together by fate.

Balakrishnan and Ashok are two childhood friends who lose touch with each other. One of them goes on to become a national figure and the other, a village barber.

Kumaresan is a rich landlord in a village who spends his wealth for the welfare of his village in Erode district. As Kumaresan's parents died when he was young, he has no one to care for except his sidekicks (Vadivelu, Manivannan and Halwa Vasu). Local Panchayath president Govindan also hails from the same village who has enmity with Kumaresan. Kumaresan does not respect Govindans growth from being a labor in his farm to a rich politician, and Govindan keeps interrupting often whenever Kumaresan wants to find a bride.
