Thia and Murelli, who live from car stunt shows, make ends meet by carrying out small burglaries. When Murelli's daughter, whom he has tried to keep away from his business falls in love with a young thug, her father feels he must help the couple by including the young man in a heist. Their scheme misfires and forces the group to set up a jailbreak, with unfortunate results.

But the good life cannot go on: one morning a policeman knocks at the young couple's door: the country wants Frédéric back in the Army.

Font-aux-cabres is the name of an Andalusian village, benefiting the Commander of the Order of Calatrava, who supports Juana Beltraneja, the pretender to the throne of Castile, against the Catholic Monarchs. The Commander's tyranny is felt throughout the country, subjecting village women and girls to his whims by threat or violence. Laurencia, who dares to refuse him, is kidnapped on her wedding day, and her fiancé Frondoso is imprisoned.

Les Cent Livres des Hommes (ORTF, 1969-1973) was a series of literary programs created by Claude Santelli and Françoise Verny, and produced notably by Santelli, Jean Archimbaud, and Serge Moati. Lagardère is a French miniseries consisting of six 50-minute episodes, created by Marcel Jullian based on Paul Féval's novel Le Bossu (the eighth film adaptation outside of theater, out of 10 known adaptations), and some of the sequels imagined by Paul Féval Jr.1, directed by Jean-Pierre Decourt, and broadcast from September 20 to October 25, 1967, on the first channel of ORTF.
