The best from the 2004 European Football Championship, which was played in Portugal. Sweden had a strong tournament and reached the quarter-finals. The tournament saw a sensational winner in Greece, who won the final against the home nation Portugal with a young Cristiano Ronaldo in the team.

The best from the 2000 European Football Championship, which was played in Belgium and Holland. Sweden had an unsuccessful tournament and did not advance from the group stage. France eventually emerged as European champions after a dramatic final against Italy.

The 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan was the first World Cup to be played in Asia. Sweden was drawn into what was known as the "Group of Death" along with Argentina, England and Nigeria. Sweden sensationally won the group after, among other things, Anders Svensson's classic free kick goal against Argentina. Brazil eventually won the World Cup gold medal and Ronaldo became the tournament's top scorer.
