In the middle of the 1800s Swedish prince Gustaf meets the actress Anna Maria Wastenius and falls in love with her, but it is an impossible love story due to the rules of society.

Martin and Märta live in a seemingly happy marriage, but Märta feels neglected. One evening she meets Martine's colleague, the Frenchman Barthou, famous for his success with the Stockholm ladies. He starts to flirt with Märta.

The maid quits at the Sommer family household and because no one in the family can cook they desperately needs a new maid. The son in the family, Åke, is a famous actor at the theater and when the up and coming actress Marianne (who also has a crush on the famous Åke) hears about the Sommers needing a new maid, she seizes the opportunity and goes undercover as a maid to get closer to Åke and the big roles in the theater.

Wholesaler Ferdinand wants his son to marry his firm partner's daughter, but the problem is they don't want to get married. The son turns to a friend for advice. It turns out that Ferdinand had a daughter from a previous marriage he didn't know nothing about, which leads to further confusion

Maria is a waitress at a local restaurant when an older man propose to her. She is a bit skeptical but agrees to marry him and become the mistress of his estate Kvarngården. Maria had a son which she was forced to give away for adoption when he was born because she could not take care of him. She has keep contact with the child and posed as a kind aunt. She has not told her new husband about her son and when the years go by and no children of their own comes along the resentment and bitterness grows. When the adoptive mother of Maria's son dies she and the adoptive father agrees that the best thing for the boy is to come and stay with Maria at Kvarngården. She also hope that it will make her husband come out of his bitterness to have a young boy around. The result is unfortunately quite the opposite.

The author Tom Berger has written a book that is very prejudiced against women. The local chapter of Women's League starts a campaign against him.

A drama about a doctor and his wife. She used to be an actress, but became a housewife when she married. When she resumes her acting career the marriage crashes.

Lola Brio has a large number of professions. She is partly a revue primadonna and gramophone singer, but the nameplate on her door also reads "Lessons in French and Grace", which of the film's act to judge apparently means that she is partly a luxury prostitute and partly takes care of country girls to give them some posture of polish.
