Yakutia, the 1930s. Old Mikipper and his wife Oppuos live their days in thick taiga. Cows, hunting, fishing make up the simple everyday life of the old people. Once early in the winter an eagle flies into their garden. The old people dare no drive it away because eagles are sacred. All through the winter they feed the bird so that it does no attack their cattle. Gradually they grow accustomed to each other. On a cold Christmas day the eagle makes its way into the house and occupies the honorary place in the corner on the shelf next to the icons. From then on the people and the bird start their life together in one house.

A young family with a baby is visiting elderly parents living in a remote northern village. Suddenly, their child becomes sick with dysentery. There is no necessary medicine in the village, the telephone line was cut off, and the roads were washed out due to the spring flood. The young father Vanya decides to get to the regional center on his own in order to call a Sunrise to the village. But the road ahead is long and dangerous.

The largest of them is the elusive and brutal Popov gang, which collects stolen gold to organize a military coup in the Far East. In their footsteps, a small detachment of the NKVD under the leadership of Senior Lieutenant Karasev is sent through the snow-covered endless taiga.

In a yurt on the snow-covered fields of the North, Nanook and Sedna live following the traditions of their ancestors. Alone in the wilderness, they look like the last people on Earth. Nanook and Sedna's traditional way of life starts changing - slowly, but inevitably. Hunting becomes more and more difficult, the animals around them die from inexplicable deaths and the ice has been melting earlier every year. Chena, who visits them regularly, is their only connection to the outside world - and to their daughter Ága, who has left the icy tundra a long time ago due to family feud. When Sedna's health deteriorates, Nanook decides to fulfill her wish. He embarks on a long journey in order to find Ága.

During the journey, feelings develop between them. During the long and difficult journey, Khabiy begins to feel a growing threat. Nykus, driven by feelings for Kiluk, is ready to take extreme measures. Fate leads them to a long-abandoned hut that holds a secret from Khabiy's past.
