It ends in discouragement and defeat then wonders absent for Gabrielsen , and personal tragedies for those who were misguided .

Journalist Tore Haugen returns to Norway from the United States. He falls in love with journalist Tore Næss and soon discovers that he has been hired by the same newspaper as her. Næss shows outstanding qualities and develops into a star reporter, while Haugen is mediocre. When they have a child together, the question arises as to who should sacrifice their career to stay home with the child. Haugen soon finds himself comfortable in the role of stay-at-home dad.

There is a confusion between comedy treasurer Theodor Jensen and an escaped felon, Gerhardt Müller, both played by Carsten Winger. Nanna Stenersen had the role of Mrs Jensen.

Young student Steffen Berg finds it difficult to adapt to society's laws and rules. "You can leave your husband behind, but not your suitcase," exclaims the lively 21-year-old Ellen Stenersen. She and Per are left standing on the pier. They are old acquaintances and neighbors in the country. Per doesn't think being a grasshopper is so bad. He and his friend Stoffer throw themselves into the temptations of Oslo. The men are also accompanied by Ellen. Per and Ellen develop warm feelings for each other.

Moving in with Petter's parents proves impossible, Kari can't endure her mother-in-law's constant interference. Trying to build a house of their own is halted by so much red tape, and affordable rentals is hard to come by. When Kari gets pregnant things doesn't get any easier.
