Big-hearted Prue, living in the slums, and Danny O'Maddigan, a reformed crook, want to buy a birthday cake for Prue's 75-year-old grandmother. They live across the hall from Ellen Rutherford, the destitute widow of Steven Rutherford, Jr., who was disinherited by his father, a wealthy candy manufacturer. Prue, who works at the candy factory, gives Ellen the money that was meant for her grandmother's cake so Ellen will be able to care for her son Bobby. Frustrated over the loss of the money, Danny steals the price of a cake from the factory's safe, leaving the safe's door open in his haste to depart.

Kate, a washerwoman, takes Tim McGrath’s cab on security when he doesn’t pay his laundry bill. Trouble arises when Kate picks up her first passenger.

This amusing and diverting comedy depicts the trials and tribulations of a French nobleman to win the hand of a rich American girl. He is about to succeed when Fate, in the form of two tramps, steps in and he has to abdicate in favor of the higher power.

Once there was a broad girl who had nothing to do except the two-by-four midget known as her husband, so she decided to help the poor. She thought it was a big help to the lowly and uncultured to see what a real razmataz lady was like, so when she was all hooked up behind, she galloped forth to do things to the poor.

Mrs. Highstrung's maid leaves her at a very inopportune time, as she has just received a telegram from some friends that they will arrive in the city in time for luncheon. Jim, the hired man, tells her of a good Swedish cook and Mrs. Highstrung sends him post haste after her.

Tom and Dick live at the same boarding house and are rivals for the hand of their landlady. One evening the crowd decided to play all of the old-fashioned games, and the antics that they go through will keep one in a constant fit of laughter. Tom is determined to make Dick look foolish, and vice versa, so they are continually in a scramble.

Howard Simpkins suspects his wife and is therefore jealous.
