Among her uncle's things are a tangled spool of 8 mm film, a photo of an unknown woman and an envelope with an address. Aki ends up meeting his uncle's old friend Saguru and watching old films they shot together 20 years ago. While she's spending time in Tokyo with her friend Yumi, Aki is haunted by film-like dreams and visions related to the uncle she never knew.

A mysterious disease spreads around the world. If people get the disease, cherry blossoms will bloom on their body and they will die. The cause or possible vaccine for the disease does not exist. People begin to accept the disease as part of their daily lives.
