Based on the true story of the notorious Marquis de Sade. In 18th century Paris, an innocent beauty's search for her missing sister leads her into the deadly sensuous realm of the infamous Marquis de Sade. Imprisoned for his sordid crimes, the Marquis likewise has the beauty morally trapped... for she must help him complete his banned book of lust, or never learn the fate of her sister. It becomes a test of wills and wit, as the Marquis attempts to convert her to his deviously sexual philosophy. When the Marquis escapes his prison, she must follow him to his remote chateau of sin to finally discover her sister's fate, and to face her own.

At the center of this social absurdist comedy, filmed like a performance, are beautiful and bold women. They meet men and introduce them to their way of life. The men like where they've ended up and become part of the unique world of their chosen women. "Freedom" is a leftist pamphlet on the immodest charm of the bourgeoisie, made with a love of irony and the excessively free spirit of humanity. This is an auteur film, if only because the author himself periodically appears on screen throughout the story, narrating it to the viewer.

The hero is a cadet of a military school where future defenders of the Pinochet regime are trained. Having survived the collapse of the philosophy of brutality, Jaguar (so he is nicknamed by the cadets for his firm and independent character) joins the ranks of fighters against the existing regime.
