Danger Bay is a Canadian television series, produced in Vancouver, with first-run episodes broadcast on CBC Television and the Disney Channel starting October 7, 1985. One hundred and twenty three installments were filmed, ending in 1989, but the series, perceived as wholesome and exciting fare for older children and adolescents, continued to be seen through the 1990s in numerous countries around the world. The plots of the episodes followed the exploits of the Roberts family, led by marine veterinarian Grant "Doc" Roberts, and his two children, Nicole and Jonah. The 30-minute episodes featured the Vancouver Aquarium in nearly every installment. Most episodes focused on environmental issues such as pollution, wildlife endangerment and forest preservation. For the Record, an anthology of 60-to-90-minute dramas, started on the series, Performance, as a subseries called Camera ’76. A collection of docudrama-style short stories on diverse but socially relevant (and very Canadian) topics such as unemployment, euthanasia, spousal abuse, televangelists, aboriginal issues, and anglophone-francophone relations. This series attracted most of the 'big name' Canadian actors and directors of the time.

Shepherd portrayed Valerie Koester, a British secret service agent who enlists the unofficial help of her ex-lover, David Brook, played by Francks. Once a top Canadian agent during the Cold War, Brook became disillusioned with high-tech espionage and was relegated to a desk job. Both Brook and Koester, known for their nonconformist attitudes, opposed the overly bureaucratic Graydon, played by Brian Linehan, and partnered with the sympathetic General, portrayed by Mavor Moore, head of the Canadian secret service.
