Teddie Barker, an employee of the Searchlight Insurance Company, falls in love with Clara Brummer. Her father does not, at first, acquiesce to the engagement, but after persuasion agrees and attends the marriage of his daughter, and promises a dowry of £5,000 when the young man attains the position of branch manager in his company.

A poor composer who should buy a property for his ambitious father-in-law finances with the money, nevertheless, an opera. Together with his friend who must play a husband to his strict rich aunt, he makes to himself a fun from the mistakes which cause her feints.

A working class young woman disregards the wishes of her father to stay in her place, and marries higher in society by wooing a wealthy car manufacturer.

Lola Brio has a large number of professions. She is partly a revue primadonna and gramophone singer, but the nameplate on her door also reads "Lessons in French and Grace", which of the film's act to judge apparently means that she is partly a luxury prostitute and partly takes care of country girls to give them some posture of polish.

Plastic surgeon Professor Mangold sends assistant Fred to pick up a patient at the train station. Fred brings the wrong woman, losing his job and his fiancee in the chaotic aftermath while the professor and his wife separate.

Bank manager Pankh has a habit of promoting the men who let him spend some time with their wives. Pelle Finkel doesn't want to subject his own wife to this so he decides to hire the prostitute Mimmi to pose as his wife.

Gusti Aigner and Franz Lenhardt are in love, but composer Lenhardt is too shy and bashful to go out and sell his compositions to music publishers. Gusti takes the burden on herself; and while there are complications and humorous situations she runs into.
