The beginning of the 1950s. Expectations

Taya lives in a small village by the river and works at the post office. Her life passes measuredly, habitually, there have been no special events in her life yet. A young geologist Samsonov appears in the village, and the girl hopes for happy changes.

Iron Field

Vladmir Bobylev goes on leave for his 60th anniversary. He takes his wife and son and heads for his native town Kholmy, where he stops with his family at his battle comrade, who suggests a trip to their battle places. The old man agrees almost without hesitation, for after the war hes never been there. The heroes of the cheerful story, consisting as it were of three novellas, dentist Lenochka, lecturer Gudoshnikov and projectionist Sasha sail on a small boat on the northern river Yuve past beautiful places and taiga settlements, where they stop and get acquainted with the locals - kind, cheerful and soulful.

The Watermelon Trip

Forwarder Gaidamovich was assigned to deliver a ton of watermelons through the impassable taiga to a distant drilling site. Gaidamovich nursed his valuable cargo like a small child: he covered it with tarpaulin, laid straw, but he brought only a mountain of broken watermelons to the rig. But the oilmen were not upset.

Boys

Zhenya Prokhorov, a pupil of an orphanage, draws the attention of the director of the capital's choir school. The professor strongly advises Zhenya to study. Having become a soloist in the boys' choir, Zhenya does not refuse from "left" concerts organized by the enterprising Victor Victorovich - and one day tears his voice. The young hero bears the first loss with dignity, and after graduating from the school enters the conservatory at the faculty of composition.

Summer Vacations Time

Engineer-geologist Svetlana Panyshko in the far northern land dreams of summer, southern sky and warm sea, but instead of vacation she is forced to take into her own hands unprofitable oil field in order not to let down her comrades and fulfill the plan.
