Behind the Red Gates is a terrific folk comedy that takes us behind the attractions at the traditional amusement park in Klampenborg.

To get a job in a female trio, Per Fagernæs dresses up in women's clothing and calls himself Martha. Together with his "boyfriend" Poul, the four of them travel to the countryside. There has just been a funeral. Outside the cemetery, the family members are standing and discussing how much their deceased great-uncle, the rich toy manufacturer Th. Olsen, has left behind. The family is waiting for little Cornelius Nielsen, who is always late. When he appears, a lively discussion begins about who Uncle Theobald has appointed as heir.

An American gangster nicknamed "English Joe" has fled across the Mexican border with his gang, consisting of four men in addition to himself. The American police are after them because of a bank robbery in which they killed several of the bank's employees. Although Danish-American George Steffenson comes from poor circumstances, he has built a large financial empire, where the money rolls in. But it is no easy matter to turn your back on the empire, while sneaky backers are making insidious plans.

Søren Holm becomes a pastor in the small town of Harslev. The parish council chairwoman, Mrs. Andersen, interferes in the pastor's family's private life, and when Søren plays in a soccer game to get to know the town's young men, Mrs. Andersen becomes furious. Half of the parish turns its back on Søren. But Søren does good work for the young people, and gradually, with the help of the parish clerk, he is accepted by both the parish council and the town's youth.

Grete Hansen is looking for work at "Morgenbladet". Here she meets the womanizer Vilmer, who wants Grete to meet him on her first night out on the town, and Bob, a young man who plays private detective. When Bob reads that there are a number of counterfeit 100 kroner notes in circulation, Bob and Grete decide to catch the thief. First they break into the home of a policeman whom they suspect of being a counterfeiter. Later they play servants at the home of another suspect. Then Grete discovers something suspicious about Vilmer - she follows him to a spooky house.

The story is about a student named Peder Pedersen, who has tried to pass his law degree exam the max number of times without success. He hasn't been able to make anything concrete out of his 7-year engagement to a young lady either, because he's way too into anything detective-related. In all other areas, he is extremely distracted.

The stout Axel Høegh is a forester on the Troldborg estate in South Zealand, where he lives with his daughter Anne, who runs the house, and his son Mogens, who serves as a forester candidate under his father, and who is engaged to a young girl, Ulla Kryger, who is employed at a Copenhagen advertising agency.

Folk comedy with Osvald Helmuth in a brilliant role as the butcher Mortensen, who wins a fortune at the roulette table and engages a baron to train him in the role of a consummate gentleman. It gives him, he thinks, a chance to conquer the seamstress in his life. As top-trimmed as you can make butcher Helmuth, the trio, together with the baron's sister, go to the castle meeting with the aristocracy. It will be a tough test, and it is a shame to say that the butcher passes the exam - on the other hand, he gains the experience that lies in recognizing: Money is not everything - it is the innermost that counts.

Peter Andersen is an agent. Neither a wholesaler nor a representative, but simply an agent. Unlike his wife, he has no honorable ambitions. He is an honest, peaceful and self-sufficient person who has dragged his whole life like a draft ox, whipped forward by a boss who constantly demands results, and by a family who still demands money for pleasures.
