Alekos was initially surprised. However, when Mavroleon explained the situation to him, he finally accepted. At the beginning of the war, Mavroleon's daughter, Olga, met army officer Dimos Fokas, who was killed shortly afterwards. Her father, however, told her that he had been taken prisoner. Olga is seriously ill and will die in three months. Mavroleon thought of giving her a few moments of happiness, since Alekos looks remarkably like Dimos. His daughter, although she suspects the deception, accepts the man close to her, so that she can end her life with the deceptive feeling of the presence of the man she once loved.
