Seniha lives with her brother Halit and his wife Mükerrem. When Nüzhet, the handsome son of the richest family in town, sets his eyes on the married Mükerrem, she is at first disgusted with Nüzhet’s overt sexual innuendo. However, it isn’t long before Mükerrem yields to her lust and thus they embark on an affair. When Seniha finally reveals her sister-in-law’s un-virtuousness to her brother, Seniha has no idea what the consequences will be and how cruelly her destiny will change.

In a Turkish village, five orphaned sisters live under strict rule while members of their family prepare their arranged marriages.

Nesrin is an urban, middle-class woman recovering from a divorce. She’s quit her office job, abandoned her house in Istanbul, and come to the village house of her deceased grandmother to finish a novel and live out her childhood dream of being a writer. When her conservative and increasingly unhinged mother turns up uninvited and refuses to leave, Nesrin’s writing stalls and her fantasies of village life turn bitter as the two are forced to confront the darker corners of each other’s inner worlds.

Yusuf is released from prison after serving a ten year sentence. Because of unexpected problems at his sister’s house, he finds himself in a cheap hotel where he meets a man, a woman, and a child who will change his life in unexpected ways…

Fatma is around 50, a housewife with six children. She lives in Vienna but grew up in Turkey and clings stubbornly to the traditions and values of the old country. Ayse is 19, and the film begins with her wedding in rural Turkey, to Fatma’s son Hasan. However, when the family takes Ayse to Vienna this is revealed as a charade, for Ayse is to be the kuma (second wife) of Fatma’s husband Mustafa.

The story follows Güven, who works as a manager at an accounting firm in Kavşak. Güven, who has a happy marriage, sees his routine life begin to unravel when the new department manager, Arzu, moves into his office. Meanwhile, the landlord's son is trying to reach an agreement with a contractor to demolish the house they are living in, and accounting clerk Haydar is embezzling company funds. A small slip-up in Güven's life, combined with Arzu's uncontrollable curiosity, causes events to unfold like a snowball effect, leaving Güven cornered.

Isa is blamed for a robbery. He is badly beaten and given twenty four hours to return the money. Instead of finding the money, Isa finds a gun.

Retired criminal court judge Sezgin loses his faith in justice and his profession after his daughter Belgin, who was his lifeline, is murdered and his son-in-law İlker, who was tried as the defendant, is acquitted. He moves away from the city he lives in and settles in a coastal town. Although İlker was acquitted in court, Sezgin believes that his son-in-law killed his daughter. Determined to seek justice in his own way, Sezgin kidnaps İlker and imprisons him in a cell he had built in the basement of his villa. He decides that his son-in-law will remain there until he dies. His retired judge friends Fuat, Nedim, Erdal, and his wife, prosecutor Nazan, visit him a few times a month to keep him company. Sezgin's decision to close his daughter's case file, his sudden move from Istanbul, and his son-in-law's disappearance around the same time raise suspicions among his friends.
