A naive young man witnesses an escalation of violence in his small hometown following the arrival of a mysterious circus attraction.

A family saga taking place mostly in a small Slovak village over a period of thirty years (1887–1917). The first part captures the life of Martin Pichandu in the development of his craft, masonry; in the second part, his son is center stage living in a period of socio-political crisis, which ultimately results in the first World War. After originally airing on Czechoslovakian television in 1983 as a four-part 226-minute mini-series, this production received a 163-minute theatrical release in 1984.

The story of a man who decides to leave his job and good position to return to his native region and become the administrator of an open-air museum. This step is primarily his personal rebellion against the abuse of his scientific work. It is only a personal confession in a conversation with his teenage daughter that brings him moral cleansing and a return to his lost psychological balance. The film, taking place in 1950, presents the story of Father Leopold and the monks of his order struggling to once again revive Christianity in a country trying to scrape itself together after the war. Initially, the communist powers do not hinder their work, and the Church was even able to regain possession of holy objects hidden during the war. This "peaceful" state does not last long. Father Leopold is arrested on trumped up charges, and in order to break him, he is subjected to cruel torture. His former student, Lieutenant Keller, who turned his back on religion and now believes in the socialist system, is appointed - upon the command of Major Fyodorov - to extract a confession of guilt. But the Father's perseverance and resistance changes everything.

Sophie "inherits" her uncle's preserved whale and finds out that whoever sleeps in the whale's belly with her will be granted one wish, causing chaos and hatred in the village.

Zoltán, a young electrician, lives in Komárno, a town on the border of Hungary and Slovakia. His simple, carefree life suddenly changes, when he is accidentally hit by a car and almost killed. He dreams of a guardian angel who grants him a new lease on life on one condition: in three days, he has to improve the lives of at least three other inhabitants of this town that long ago forgot how to be happy. Thus begins Zoltán's incredible journey.

War takes its cruel toll, which everyone must pay. It hits a small Slovak village especially hard, where the struggle for a bare life becomes a test of human character. For two impoverished friends, Jakub and Maja, struggling through poverty is more than difficult. Jakub delivers sour milk from somewhere on his cart to the entire village and lives in a dilapidated house with his sister Tereza, whose caregiver and guide through life is the experienced woman Mara, who provides herself with money from seduced soldiers. Maja, on the other hand, is a foundling and homeless man who does whatever he can to survive the next day. The only consolation for the two inseparable friends are the circulating tales of a kind of promised land, where there is no poverty or hunger, and where they could both go. Only this vision, this idea alone keeps the two of them and the rest of the village on their feet, and gives them hope for a better tomorrow.

King Philip, wounded in a losing battle, promises the witch Fate "the most precious thing he has" for victory and peace in his country. However, he has no idea what Fate is really asking of him. When he learns that it is his infant daughter Radena, he does everything in desperation to save her. For years he has been searching in vain for Fata, and the day of fulfilling his promise draws near...

Adapted from a short story written by Bulgarian novelist K. Stradžev, this film is set in a large quarry, where a love story unfolds between Anton, a miner, and Zora, a worker, during the era of socialism's first major construction projects. The second plotline centers on the characters' reunion thirty years later.

Only after his death Peter realizes how much he had been hurting his father. Still, not even the tragedy can make a change in his shallow life in stereotype.

The drama called I Love, You Love was made in 1980 but because of the absurd ideological ban, the film entered cinemas nine years later. Pišta is an unmarried man who works at a freight wagon which carries letters and parcels. Alcohol helps him to overcome his handicap of being short and not good-looking. He wishes he had a woman, but the woman he really wants, ageing Viera who reloads the cargoes, has a soft spot for another man. So, Pišta has nobody and nothing, except for senile mother who sometimes fails to recognize him. The film received Silver Bear for Best Director at the International Film Festival in Berlin.

Three forty-year-olds friends, hockey player and football players, decide to end their sports careers at the same time. All three find themselves at the beginning of a new life and must choose the path they will take.
