Carlos goes to visit his girlfriend Juana at the asylum where she works. Once there, the director introduces him to his niece, who is obsessed with playing the harp, and to a nurse who repeats word for word what Carlos says.

Blanquita, a very superstitious Cuban young woman, visits a fortune teller on the eve of her wedding to Roberto. According to Spanish rent-control law, he could inherit the lease from his spouse. Thus begin his misgivings, and Petrita's.
