Inspired by a Malay legend about two friends whose relationship is tested by conflicting loyalties.

To seek revenge on a woman whom doesn't reciprocate his love, Dato Ali lies to the Sultan that misfortune will befall him and his kingdom if a sacrificial ritual is not performed. The Sultan believes him and orders that the sacrificial ritual be carried out, without knowing that it involves the use of blood from a woman in her first pregnancy on the sail boat 'Lancang Kuning' before its maiden voyage.

The movie adaptation based on the legend of Raden May Ayu. It follows the original tale rather closely, though a few variations of the legend do exist. The essence of each of the variations is more or less the same: Radin Mas Ayu is the baby daughter of Pangeran (brother of the Sultan of Java) and a court dancer; she is forced to go on exile to Temasek with his father after the Sultan disagrees with her parents' marriage and burns their house down, killing her mother. Radin Mas Ayu grows up to be a pious and filial daughter, but is despised out of jealousy by her stepmother. She eventually sacrifices herself as she shields her father from a murderous attack.

Qais and Laila fall in love with each other when they are young, but when they grow up Laila's father doesn't allow them to be together. Qais becomes obsessed with her, and his tribe Banu 'Amir and the community gives him the epithet of “Majnun” ("crazy", literally "possessed by jinn"). When Qais asked for Laila’s hand in marriage, her father refused because it would be a scandal for her to marry someone considered mentally unbalanced. Soon after, Laila was married to another noble and rich merchant. When Qais heard of her marriage, he fled the tribal camp and began wandering the surrounding desert.

The fairy tale is about two sisters, Bawang Merah and Bawang Putih. After their father dies, Bawang Merah and her mother, Labu, have to share the house with domineering Kundor and Bawang Putih. Bawang Merah has to endure more hardship when her mother dies. She is bullied, beaten and abused in every way imaginable by Kundor and Bawang Putih. As the tale goes, her mother eventually reappears – as a fish. Bawang Merah becomes happier and this puzzles both Kundor and Bawang Putih. Her ship comes in when a Prince hears her singing in the woods and marries her. Of course, Kundor is terribly unhappy that her brat, Bawang Putih, is married to none, let alone a prince. So she devises an evil scheme to destroy Bawang Merah’s marriage and get the prince to notice Bawang Putih.

Che 'Rostam worked as a bank manager. He has a wife named Rosmah and her young man named Rostam. Rosmah disease paralyzed and just move around the house using a wheelchair. Rostam who often endure the inner silence at home, often attended events organized by his friends. Meanwhile, Rosmah really never worried because Rostam did not return or stay in place for 21 years, they got married. The next day, when Rostam returned he had lied to his wife ...

A man falls in love with a woman above his station. Zul is working at a stable owned by Johan. Eventually at the same time Zul fell in love with Johan's daughter Jelita. But after being ridiculed and mocked by Johan and his friends Husin, Zul resigned from his job and wanted to be a sailor instead. But unfortunately the ship he was on was hit with a big tidal wave and began sinking. Zul ended being thrown on the shore of an island not known to him. Will he ever see his Jelita again after this? How will he ever find a way to save his own life?

Things get complicated when Amir returns from the city and tells his mother that he's going to marry Aminah a girl from another village not Rosini. THis wasn't accepted by his mother but in the end they got married. Unfortunately the day Amir brings back his new wife to meet his sister, Faridah was caught in a terrible accident and had passed away. His mother has accused Aminah for bringing bad omen into the family.

The film is a Malay film which was published in Malaysia in 1955. Films issued in the form of black and white film without color. The directed by director A.M. Basker in 1955 .

The same year Shaw’s Malay Film Productions released P. Ramlee’s Penarek Becha, they also produced this melodrama centred around another humble trishaw driver. Like Ramlee’s film it was co-written by young literary upstart Jamil Sulong (who later became a director). Similar issues around class, wealth and modernity are explored through the tale of a kindly older trishaw driver (Omar Rojik) who adopts Jamilah, an orphan and marries her guardian, offering her a simple but better life (including a very, very long visit the circus). As the years pass Jamilah pulls away from her impoverished kampong life towards a world of motor cars and monied families, while kind Omar’s health is failing. A classic slice of social-realist melodrama.

Dahlan is a poetical says expert who has been summoned by the Sultan to replace the late poetic says expert. He is arranged to stay with Datok Prime Minister; whose daughter soon falls in love with him. The marriage took place without Dahlan's wife, Dahlia's knowing since the strict royal Palace rule forbids Dahlan to mix around with commoners and he misses his wife and family. The aching absence of his family and news of his parent's death left Dahlan very sick yet he continues to battle with his new wife and the Prime Minister for the day he can be reunited with Dahlia.

Che Mamat is always unfortunate. Most of the things that he does goes wrong which makes him wasting most of his time telling stories to kids. Due to his lover pressure he agrees to enter a short story competition. His winning over this competition changed his lifestyle very drastically when he was being offered a position as a reporter at a national newspaper.

Mayang raise by her aunt, Mak Tijah. Mak Tijah always ask Mayang to do hard work. But without Mayang own knowledge, she actually often assisted by spirits. Mayang then forced to marry a rich man Daud. When a struggle ensued between Mak Tijah and Mayang, they fell into the river. Mak Tijah drowned but Mayang was saved by spirits.

A period drama with Malay symbolisms, myth and folklore, the title Chuchu Datok Merah points to the mental image Malays have of themselves as descendants of Hang Tuah, the legendary Malay warrior of Malacca. Awang Janggut is very much a pseudo-warrior. Instead of a “keris”, a warrior’s weapon, he owns a prize-winning rooster. His battlefield is the cock fight arena. Home is a big but empty house inherited from his ancestor, and prefers living in poverty to working. The closest he comes to the high life of a warrior is when a rich businessman employs him as a bodyguard after he prevents hooligans from taunting the latter’s daughter Siti. Despite knowing Awang is married, Siti continues to flirt with him, causing him to leave his pregnant wife alone. She eventually falls sick and has a miscarriage. The film is a social criticism of people who rest on their laurels and ancestry instead of working for themselves. It is also one of the finest examples of the anti-hero in Malay cinema.

Normah is married to a workaholic painter who is more intent on making money out of his art than showing concern and affect for her. She couldn't care less about his artistic pursuits and spends time dolling herself up. Her beauty catches the eye of Jamal, a car salesman, who pursues her to the neglect of his work, wife and children. Initially reluctant, Normah eventually gives in to Jamal's attention and a heady adulterous affair follows. However, Jamal's wife gets wind of their illicit relationship and he promptly forsakes Normah for the security of his family. Lonesome once more, Normah [the feminist heroine of the film] doesn't take long to lose herself to the thrill of another extramarital fling, this time to a fashionable and showy young man.
