In ancient Mauretania, the young Roman Lucius Apuleius and his friend Aristomene run into a series of misadventures.

Two young lovers, Tao and Valeria, decide to go and enjoy a beautiful holiday in privacy, away from the daily routine and their parents. After a journey full of adventures, aboard a sidecar, they find themselves in a campsite populated by Germans.

Five different episodes unfold against the backdrop of Italian historical and political events in 1922. In the first, in the aftermath of the March on Rome, two scoundrels speculate on the event. In the second, a punitive expedition enters the home of a socialist deputy. In the third, the fascists rob a countess. In the fourth, a disgraced marshal incriminates a fascist Camorra member. In the fifth, there is the story of an encounter at the seaside.

The film takes us on a voyage to a hidden Italy rarely addressed on film: Gay Italy as it was lived in the 20th century, from the turn of the century up to the 80s. The documentary gives voice to those who personally had to bear the weight of being "different", remembering how their lives were shaped by this situation during Fascism and in the aftermath of World War II, in an anthropologically and culturally widely diverse nation. Theirs is a mixed testimony of repression, censorship, dignity, courage, and happiness, making way for the final image of a world - our world - that still has a long way to go towards respect and liberty for everyone.
