Wildes Baltikum

A boundless wilderness, a mere flapping of wings away from the white sandy beaches of the famous Baltic bathing resorts on Usedom and Wollin. In this dream-like aquatic world between Germany and Poland, sea eagles breed so close to one another that one could be excused for considering it a colony. The first wolf pack in Mecklenburg Western Pomerania settled here years ago in the Oder Delta. Huge herds of wild horses cross the vast plains, while bison roam the forests of the Polish side. This film tells the dramatic story of a lonely bison bull that found its way across the border into Germany and reveals intimate insights into the domestic life of the beaver. The absolute highlight has to be the 200 sea eagles that came to the Anklamer Stadtbruch during the summer. A natural spectacle that one can only experience in the Oder-Delta.

The Baltics are rich in superlatives: a fifth of the world's spotted eagle stocks breed here. One of the largest courtship arenas for snipes is located here in the floodplains of Latvia. More than 1000 wolves go on the hunt in Latvia's forests. Lithuania is the land of storks - with over 13.000 pairs, no other region in the Baltic States has more white storks.

The nature of the Baltic Sea offers many surprises as demonstrated in the three-part series Wild Baltic Sea. From the Northern most tip of Denmark to the Curonian Spit, from the Estonian island world to the Bay of Bothnia. For the first time bottlenose dolphins and a Sowerby's beaked whale could be filmed in the Baltic Sea.

The fairytale river landscape of the Spreewald, the flocks of birds of the North Frisian Wadden Sea and the striking chalk cliffs on the island of Rügen. You can see unique landscapes and their fauna in the different regions of Germany.

Eastern Poland is one of Europe's last wild regions; the Biebrza lowlands make up the biggest national park in Poland and are of the utmost value for beavers, otters and countless aquatic birds.
