Adaptation of the Mallen series of novels by Catherine Cookson.

Tide of Life is a three-part miniseries adaptation of Catherine Cookson's 1976 novel of the same name. Produced by the BBC, it was broadcast on ITV1 over three Fridays in January 1996. Young housekeeper Emily Kennedy learns about relationships with three very different men. Forced from home of her first employer, Sep McGilby, after his plans to marry her come to tragic end, Emily finds work for farmer Larry Birch. Another misfortune occurs, and when Nick Stuart inherits the farm owned by Birch's wife, Nick gives Emily a new future.

In 1830s rural England, a courageous young girl, envied by women for her beauty, lusted after by men, is accused of witchcraft and forced to rise above the prejudice of many people in the community in which she lives.

In 19th century England, wealthy young Annabella Lagrange lives a comfortable and secluded life on her family's country estate, where her parents own a glass works. As a child, she develops a special friendship with the charming stable boy Manuel Mendoza. When she turns 18, she marries her cousin Stephen and sees what the world is really like.

Adaptation of Catherine Cookson's novel. In mid-19th century Yorkshire, Hannah Boyle is left with the family of Matthew Thornton, the man her dying mother claims fathered her. Agnes faces an added dilemma when she finds her heart divided between Charles and his soldier brother Reginald.

Jacqueline is the daughter of Belfast shipyard worker Mike McNeil. The worker's worth is compromised by his crippling fear of heights. Dismissed from his job, he finds solace in the bottle.
