The story of the aftermath of the Civil War and how the United States transformed into the “land of opportunity" spanning the years 1865 to 1890. Transporting into the violent world of cowboys, Indians, outlaws and law men, the story chronicles the personal, little-known stories of Western legends such as Jesse James, Billy the Kid, Wyatt Earp, Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull.

Broken Trail weaves together two historical events: the British buying horses in the American West in the late 19th century and Chinese women being transported from the West Coast to the interior to serve as prostitutes.

Lucky Luke, the legendary lone cowboy, must team up with Louise, a fearless young woman searching for her missing mother. Together, they face the dangers of the Wild West, ally with old enemies like the Daltons or Billy the Kid - and learn to get along. This quest may reveal a far greater threat and lead Luke back to the origins of his legend.
