Daniel Hutchings' Thingy

Ema has been having 'one of those days' a lot recently. The Mum of Two, has tidied too much, cooked too often and felt excited far too little to be satisfied. But as another day begins, she receives an offer for a good time with a mystery admirer.

The fourth Thingy from Daniel Hutchings spends the day in a fictional Northen city in the UK, following the lives of three ambitious strangers as they intersect through the game of basketball. See this city from the inside out! From the skyscrapers to the countryside! From the bus to the tram and back again! From the crowded city streets of everyone going about their day to the silent suburbs in broad daylight! See how each character spend their day and the little victories they try to win! But they won’t know what a win means until they’re in the 5th QTR and neither will you!

"If today is yesterday’s tomorrow and tomorrow brings today’s ideas to pass, who knows what tomorrow might bring!"

2024. Written and Directed by Katie Brown.

In 2024, Daniel Hutchings began screening his five feature-length art comedies, or Thingys, for the general public in Manchester to see if he could increase his audience numbers. Finding a home at The Eagle Inn in Salford, Hutchings documented who came to his Thingy events and what they thought of them. 'Year of The Thingy' captures the audience reactions, and the growing group of Thingy Fans, to all five of Daniel Hutchings' Thingys across the year. 'Year of The Thingy' is the about what happens when a filmmaker trying to make the world a happier place from the outskirts of the entertainment industry decided to turn the back room of a pub into a cinema. Come find out about the people who came to see the work of the filmmaker who Damien McFerran calls "the Walter Mitty for the digital age" and the Thingys that the Don't Tell Show says are "what indie film is all about" in a Daniel Hutchings Thingy about The Thingy Fans.

Take a journey to the centre of hilarity through the inane and insane ramblings from the daydreamer next door. Daniel Hutchings is the self-proclaimed Freelance Giggle-oh and he’s got his big break on Gemma Wilde’s show.
