An idyllic holiday cruising the backwaters of the South Pacific becomes a voyage into hell for a group of passengers on board The Sea Tramp. The magnificent sailing boat is set upon by modern day pirates and seized in a bloody battle which claims the lives of many. Those who escape the pirates find themselves marooned on a deserted tropical island. Putting aside their not inconsiderable differences, they band together to ensure their own survival. With the constant threat that the murderous pirates will return to finish the job, the members of this tribe depend on each other for their very existence. Instead, the series follows the adventures of Matt McGregor, a successful squatter, and his family. Matt is the hero immortalized in Banjo Paterson's poem "The Man from Snowy River", and the series is set 25 years after his famous ride.
