Tariq ibn Ziyad, a Berber general, is renowned for leading the Muslim army across the Strait of Gibraltar in 711 AD, marking the beginning of Islamic rule in parts of present-day Spain and Portugal. His leadership and military strategies were instrumental in the swift and successful campaigns that followed, leaving a lasting impact on the region's history.
