In 1938, at the height of the civil war, the musicians of the military band were very worried about their next concert. Agustín receives a letter from his girlfriend, who tells him about the difficulties he is going through with the rice harvest. She then decides to ask permission to go and help her, but as Lieutenant Urquiza refuses, she escapes. Two companions sent to bring him back, finally, stay with him. Also Sergeant Perez and several musicians who go looking for him stay with them.

A young man, Marco, working as a butcher, accidentally kills a taxi driver. His girlfriend Paula wants to go to the police so he has to kill her too. He then has to kill his brother, his brother’s fiancée and his father, who have become suspicious. He gets rid of the bodies by taking them to a slaughter house.

Agustín, a school teacher, visits Paco, a former student, whose mother asks him to help her get the boy on the right track.

Félix (Juanjo Puigcorbé), a likeable and careerist flat salesman, wants to be the commercial director of his company at all costs. The bad thing is that this position is deserved by Lola (Cristina Marcos), a young and efficient saleswoman, with whom Félix gets on terribly and who, to make matters worse, is the lover of Emilio (Joaquim de Almeida), their boss.

A young ex-seminarian named José is doing his military service in Córdoba. There he meets Carmen, a beautiful flamenco dancer who falls madly in love, to the point that he steals to get money for her, so he will be imprisoned. José does not support the separation and, when he is driven by the Civil Guard on a train, he runs off by jumping out the window. He then left for Madrid in search of Carmen, who now lives in the company of his uncle, the lame, master of dancers. The woman welcomes José coldly, although they engage in a strange and tense relationship behind the back of El Morao, her former pimp, who lives with her again.

Elvira Ruiz, a graduate in medicine, is aimed at a village inhabited by rude and stubborn people who don´t understand that a woman can exercise this profession. Due to their ancestral backwardness, the village people have trouble telling their problems to a female, so she must use unorthodox methods to accomplish their task.

The police suspect his colleagues: Elena Carli, his former mistress and owner of the clinic where he worked; Roberto Carli, her surgeon husband; Doctor Paula Lombardo, Roberto's mistress; and the clinic's administrator. Inspector Nardi discovers that Elena has a heart condition and had offered Miguel an increased sharehold in the clinic in order to dissuade him from leaving for another post. Elena's heart condition is worsened by the relentless police scrutiny and by her suspicion that Roberto is the murderer. She has to be rushed into hospital and is even more alarmed when Roberto prepares to operate...
