AKOE/AMFI: The Story of a Revolution (*Just to sleep on their chest…)

Greece, 1977. A proposed law brings gay men and “transvestites” together in a historic event and sparks the creation of the first Greek LGBT movement. For the next 13 years, AKOE and its magazine Amfi, would define the way LGBT Greeks think about themselves. This film celebrates their story and legacy.

The Other 300: Army of Lovers

A documentary that brings to light the extraordinary story of the Sacred Band of Thebes – an elite military unit composed of 150 pairs of male lovers that became one of the most formidable forces of the ancient world. It delves into the history of this little-known chapter of classical antiquity through forensic archaeology, rare archival material, ancient art, and animation. It explores how the Sacred Band rose to prominence, met its tragic end, and continues to resonate in modern discussions of identity, heroism, and love.

Dolphin Man

As well as providing the subject for Luc Besson’s The Big Blue, Jacques Mayol did more than anyone to establish the sport of free diving to enormous depths without an oxygen supply. Using breathing techniques derived from yoga, he went to 50, 60, and even 100 meters—depths no one had considered to be within the bounds of human possibility. Mayol was a sportsman, a mystic, a vagabond, but above all, a man who believed in testing the limits of experience. This visually stunning tribute shows a man’s quest to be at one with the vastness of the ocean and to have no fear of the abyss within, where lurks serenity, freedom and finally, death.

Agries Melisses

Every time a daughter was born, the father of Eleni, Asimina and Froso planted a poplar tree at the edge of their orchard to commemorate the arrival of the new child. As they grew and grew tall and slender, he boasted of them as his daughters. In the proudest poplar, however, Helen's poplar, a swarm of wild bees had already nested. "You will be happy, my daughter, and life will be as sweet as this honey. You'll see," her father used to tell her. But, the years passed and Eleni looked at the poplar and listened to the hum... "How do you know, father... How do you know that life has written only bitterness for my root".

The Clearing

In this short film written and directed by Alexis Bisticas, the audience sees through the eyes of a man in the woods, following the distant sound of a saxophone. In a single take, the fluid steadicam shot takes the viewer on a surreal and poetic journey, as the walker comes across everything from family picnics to men in bondage suits.

The witch

1817. Mani, Greece. Two rivals families decide to marry their children. After a while their grandchild is born and found dead in the river. Everyone blames Theofano, a girl, who is a witch.
