Hello. Nice to Meet You, Let's Divorce

Former punk rocker Jonen, now a Buddhist priest, seems to have lost the meaning of his life. His manic depression handicaps him further. Music seems to be the only solution for him to exorcise his demons, against all obstacles and sound volume controllers.

A story that begins when a husband, who lost his beloved wife ten years ago and lost the meaning of life, and his daughter are unexpectedly reunited with their wife/mother. As his wife is reborn as a ten-year-old elementary school student, the family is reborn.

Asuka had once realized her goal to become a teacher, but after a gutting failure, she gives up her dream profession and becomes extremely withdrawn. After a series of events, she finds herself becoming a live-in housemother for a dorm… where the boy-band septet 8LOOM live together! At the dorm, she is reunited with her former student Dan—as a teacher, Asuka used to encourage him to go for his dreams. Inspired by Dan's leadership in the band and his passion for making his dream come true, Asuka, too, regains the passion she had in her teaching days and comes to terms with her own failure.

The Mobile Investigative Unit (known as "MIU") of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department attempts to solve cases within 24 hours. Detective Kazumi Shima is selected as a new member of MIU. He is intelligent, with excellent observation and communication skills. Yet, he does not trust other people. He is unable to find a partner in MIU and is ordered to partner with Police Officer Ai Ibuki, who works at a police substation. Ibuki applied for MIU, but he failed. He is in excellent physical condition, but he lacks knowledge and experience as a detective. Shima learns about Ibuki's background and he becomes more nervous. Finally, Shima has his first meeting with Ibuki.

The drama revolves around Kounotori Sakura, an Ob-Gyn doctor working at the Persona General Medical Centre who is also a gifted jazz pianist. His mother had died in childbirth and he was brought up in an orphanage, which is what fueled his ambition to be an ob-gyn. Riders on a commuter train get an earthquake warning on their cellphones. Cars lurch as electric sparks fly, people are thrown about and the lights go out. Train 5 passengers awake to find that they are no longer in a tunnel, and overgrown brush can be seen through the windows. People slide open the doors and find that the train tracks end suddenly ahead and behind the car. People's reactions to losing the modern world vary from confusion to alarm to indifference. Where or when are they? Can they survive in this wilderness?

The main character in his new novel, Harumi, drops out of high school and leads a quiet life, unable to understand his brother. He is scared that the same blood runs in his veins but is also enraged by the fact that his brother’s life is consumed as material for novels by many writers. A novelist, Hasegawa faces limitations in making being able to make fiction as real and cruel as it is in reality. Hasegawa hears from a witness how a murder happened but he cannot be sure if it is a true event or from her imagination. One day, Hasegawa encounters Harumi… This is an obscure yet attractive film that extends its style from Kurosawa Kiyoshi to David Lynch. The title, A Bao A Qu, comes from a shapeless being that earns its shape as the pilgrim of a true heart near him featured in Indian religion and The Arabian Nights.

"Roadside Picnic" is a piece produced by Hiroyuki Nagashima and Shigeru Matsui, pursuing the possibilities of “a new form of story telling, by the usage of digital sound technology” (financed by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science :JSPS24652030) . At first, this was planned simply as a sound installation, but visuals made by director/film maker Naoki Kato was joined in, eventually bringing to completion as a full film piece.

Yoshinaga, a real-estate agent, has a young female customer one day. She asks him to take her to the apartment where she used to live. When he plays a videotape left in that cavant room which shows some signs of its ex-resident, Yoshinaga gets lost in another fantastic world. After a while, Yoshinaga and the girl come back to their respective daily lives... A pop, colorful, yet at times a heartaching road movie, which leads to elsewhere.

A film unique of it's contrast, capturing a day of an ordinary college girl, eventually overwhelmed by the flooding sound of noise . The noise continues to over flood the peaceful mid day in Ikebukuro public park, until it is shut down by an arrival of a sudden unexpected death. The sound continues to resonate within each and everyone who was at the spot, even after the noise had died out.

A short story by Naoki Kato produced as a part of Sendai Short Piece Film Festival's movie production project “3.11 Tomorrow”. A 3 min 11 sec piece captured in film, driving nearly 1000 km in the land of Fukushima, which also was a location for Kato's commercial movie debut “Abraxas no Matsuri”.
