One on One

A poetic documentary about the Russian monotown of Karabash, located in the Ural mountains. Mass media often call it ‘the most polluted town on Earth’. Two centuries of copper mining have left an impact on the local ecology, transforming the woods and hills into a Mars-like landscape. The main force in this place where nothing ever changes is the copper smelting plant – the primary source of both employment and environmental pollution.

Anya takes the blame for her friend and becomes the target of bullying from classmates in the real world and on social networks.

Two directors begin casting a film about the 1990s, which gradually devolves into a space of uncertainty where the distinction between document and fiction disappears. This subtle disruption in the process—the appearance of a single actor obsessed with "accuracy"—leads to a loss of control and implicates them. An expelled journalism student, trying to make sense of his life, carefully documents his summer, as well as the story of the disappearance and death of the founders of one of the first startups on the Russian Internet.

The film tells about the small town of Gubkin and its inhabitants. A little-known settlement in southern Russia has a huge iron ore quarry. Through the mosaic of local stories, we will see the city and the quarry next to it, like a living creature that influences people's lives with its mood.
