The life of a single, carefree man suddenly changes when he has to take care of three nieces.

Sofía Domínguez is a motherless girl who lives with her father, Dr. Antonio Domínguez, with her stepmother Mercedes and has a younger brother named Esteban. The latter two strive to make Sofía look bad whenever they can, while her father works all day in a laboratory. Sofia has several friends who are her neighbors and one day they decide to enter the "haunted mansion" on Villa Luz street, where a man named Chon lives and who worked for his late employer "Don Darvelio." When they enter, they will live great adventures and fight to defeat the evil forces of Helga, the "Great Witch" who constantly threatens Sofia's life due to a prophecy that she must fulfill.

The story follows the life of Diana, a pre-teen who lives in a neighborhood called Buenaventura. Diana and Christian, who has just moved to Mexico due to his parents' divorce, quickly become best friends, despite their families hatred for each other. However, the neighbors of Buenaventura are in danger of losing their homes, their school and much more, because the evil old Severiano plans to tear down the neighborhood and build an enormous shopping mall in its place. To accomplish his plan, Severiano is willing to resort to any means, and will provoke a series of disasters to drive the inhabitants away.

Based on the original version of same name created by Cris Morena, the series tells the story of a group of orphans living in a manor, known as Raio de Luz, struggling and being guided by a young woman, Carol, that assumes a maternal figure for them. Their experiences such as discovering first love, deceptions, loneliness and friendship, as well as adventures in fantasy, are depicted throughout the series. The narrative is followed by musical themes and videoclips.

It is an adaptation of the book La patrona de Pablo Escobar de José Guarnizo based on history from Griselda Blanco.

Marta has a romance with Manuel, but Sofia and Armando are opposed. Ines and Renato, who are Gerardo's parents, also are opposed to his romance with Cecilia. She breaks up the romance and goes to sor Angelina's nunnery to become a nun. Sonia and Roberto try to separate Gerardo from Cecilia. Then Cecilia finds out the truth about her birth and meets padre Julio. Natalia discovers that Evangelina tries to appropriate the whole patrimony of Cecilia and Evangelina kills her.
