When Madeline's long lost uncle Horst arrives to take her to a Viennese finishing school, Miss Clavel, the eleven little girls and Pepito realize that something is not right.

Shirley Temple's Storybook is an American children's anthology series hosted and narrated by actress Shirley Temple. The series features adaptations of fairy tales like Mother Goose and other family-oriented stories performed by well-known actors, although one episode, an adaptation of The House of the Seven Gables, was meant for older youngsters. Temple's three children made their acting debuts in the last episode of the first season, "Mother Goose".

Horrified at the prospect of her beloved school being sold, a young French girl named Madeline uses her wit and craftiness to attempt to save it, making an unlikely new friend in the process.

Madeline attempts to stop the theft of the Mona Lisa in the Louvre, but no one believes her; so, she is sent to a finishing school in London. But now the thieves are also in London, and they will try to rob the Crown Jewels! Would Madeline be able to stop them?

Johnny Riggs, a con man on the lam, finds himself in a Latin-American country named Patria. There, he overhears a convent-bred rich girl praying to her guardian angel for help in managing her tangled business affairs. Riggs decides to materialize as the girl's "angel", gains her unquestioning confidence, and helps himself to the deluded girl's millions. Just as he and his partner are about to flee Patria with their booty, Riggs realizes he has fallen in love with the girl and returns the money, together with a note that is part confession and part love letter. But the larcenous duo's escape from Patria turns out to be more difficult than they could ever have imagined.

Pepito, the son of the Spanish Ambassador, invites Madeline and her fellow students to a Gypsy carnival. However, in the chaos caused by a sudden rainstorm, Miss Clavel and the other girls lose sight of Madeline and Pepito, who are unintentionally left behind on the Ferris wheel. The two children find themselves guests of the gypsies, and soon wind up part of the carnival themselves.

This short film is a reading of Madeline's Christmas; a supplement to the December 1956 issue of McCall's magazine, written by Ludwig Bemelmans. The reading is performed by Ireene Wicker (aka the "Singing Lady" of radio and early TV fame).
