This is the story of the young and beautiful Luciana Jacinto, a poor woman from the provinces who travels to Mexico City to flee the local strongman of her hometown, San Francisco el Alto. After a rough start in the big city, she must face obstacles and surprises that fate has in store for her in her quest for a happy ending, as she falls in love with a young man from a wealthy family.

Esmeralda is a Brazilian telenovela produced by SBT in association with Televisa and originally broadcast from December 6, 2004, to July 19, 2005. It is a Brazilian adaptation of the Mexican telenovela Esmeralda (1997), itself based on the original story by Delia Fiallo. Adapted by Henrique Zambelli and Rogério Garcia, the telenovela stars Bianca Castanho and Cláudio Lins. The story follows Esmeralda, a young woman who has been blind since birth after being accidentally switched with another baby shortly after her birth. Raised by a humble family in the countryside, she grows up unaware of her true identity. Mar de Amor is a Spanish-language telenovela produced by Nathalie Lartilleux with protagonists Zuria Vega, Mario Cimarro and Mariana Seoane and antagonists Ninel Conde, Marcelo Córdoba and Manuel Landeta. This is a remake of the 1978 Venezuelan telenovela María del Mar.
