Sweets to the Sweet

A strange rondo of three heroes, fatally linked to each other without any possibility of rapprochement, like cosmic bodies that obey the relentless laws of nature.

The black room. Enclosed space. The action unfolds as if slowly. You understand that every word, every gesture of the heroes have a special, secret, as yet absolutely incomprehensible meaning. But you feel: you can't miss a single nuance. There are two or three heroes in each novel. There is a real drama between them, which ends with an explosion. Sometimes figuratively, and sometimes literally. Time is continuous: there is no yesterday and tomorrow.

1942. Young men, graduates of a reconnaissance school, develop and carry out extremely complex operations behind enemy lines.

Petersburg. A Selfie comprises seven novellas about the beautiful city of St. Petersburg, Russia, shot by female directors. The film tells a story of a real, living and breathing city, rather than a mythical phantasm. Each novella tells its own story about love and loneliness, luck and hope.

An old intellectual tries to explain to the neighbor’s five-year-old daughter “all the abomination of her lumpen existence”. The girl feeling hurt for her mother decides to poison the old man with arsenic.

The film speaks about universal themes of love, hate and search for love. The portrait of three women represents these three states. Tanya Neubivko has never been in love but optimistically is searing for it. Her unfortunate and even dangerous encounters with strangers on dates almost got her killed. Rita is happily engaged and planning a wedding after a routine medical check-up. Nadya is a very unhappy doctor who hates her husband and finds relief in alcohol. The story takes place in a surreal hospital with the leaking roof and hollow walls and constantly smoking doctors, where Rita is destined to die.

Far East. 70th years. A small garrison on the border with China. Here, as everywhere, there are men and women. Everyone has his own story, his own destiny, his own love.
