Durakovo: Village of Fools

The tragic events in Georgian history, spanning from the 16th to the 18th centuries, culminated in the signing of the Treaty of Georgievsk in 1783, which placed Georgia under Russian protection.

Dimitri joins La Maison, a place where people are welcomed for whom medicine can not do anything anymore. There he meets Suzanne, a volunteer who is dedicated to supporting people at the end of their lives.

As Russian writer Boris Pasternak (1890-1960) thinks it is impossible that his novel Doctor Zhivago is published in the Soviet Union, because it supposedly shows a critical view of the October Revolution, he decides to smuggle several copies of the manuscript out of the country. It is first published in 1957 in Italia and the author receives the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1958, which has consequences.

Dominique Dumas is raising her 18-year-old son Antoine alone. They protect the dead and they hope the dead will protect them.The family is never alone. The neighbours are there to keep up their spirits, to help them with the ceremony: "Everything has to be properly done". Tsotne, dressed in his best suit gets ready to "welcome the guests". The condolences ceremony starts at eight o'clock in the evening.

Olivier Assayas, Gus Van Sant, Wes Craven and Alfonso Cuaron are among the 20 distinguished directors who contribute to this collection of 18 stories, each exploring a different aspect of Parisian life. The colourful characters in this drama include a pair of mimes, a husband trying to choose between his wife and his lover, and a married man who turns to a prostitute for advice.

It sends him into a downward spiral of paranoia and doubt as he fumbles his way through the theatre of the absurd that we call life. Using humour and a playful tone, the film examines the fragility of human nature, when our bearings get lost and our imagination takes over, highlighting our common fears, doubts, hopes and resilience.
