When the murder of a local hero rocks a small Alpine village, no-nonsense cop Awa Sissako is sent from the Parisian suburbs to investigate and is forced to face her own demons in the process.

Léo, a twenty-seven-year-old engineer, has to sell his late father's farmland to a rare metals drilling company. His father, a farmer, committed suicide three years earlier. However, strange occurrences have led him to believe that the project has been polluting the river since his childhood. He then embarks on a surreal investigation that forces him to confront his grief.

After an abortion which has left her emotionally shaken, Rosalie returns to the village where she was born. She rediscovers her grandmother's house and garden abandoned, the vigour of her best friends, her first love, and encounters the latter's new girlfriend. She tries to stay the course without creating any waves.
