Legend of Nanyue

The Cantonese opera film “A Wedding on the Execution Ground”, based on the large-scale modern Cantonese opera of the same name, is adapted from a true story. It tells the historical story of Zhou Wenyong and Chen Tiejun, members of the CPC, who pretended to be husband and wife for revolutionary activities in 1927, and were arrested after the failure of the Guangzhou Uprising. The two people would rather die than surrender, and dedicated themselves to the revolution with the execution ground as the marriage palace.

Zhan Qin, a renowned scholar of the State of Lu, was widely respected for his virtue. He managed to avert a crisis in Lu by successfully locating the envoy Cen Ding. The rival State of Qi tried to bribe and manipulate Zhan Qin with money and power, but to no avail. They then sent a woman named Zhijiang to seduce him, hoping to break his resolve. However, Zhan Qin remained morally upright and unmoved by temptation. Unexpectedly, Zhijiang fell in love with him and ultimately saved his life. Zhan Qin later resigned from office and returned to his hometown Linquan, where he lived out his days. He was later honored as the "Sage of Harmony (He Sheng)" by future generations.
