The Kiljunen family wins a holiday trip to Helsinki and the city will never be the same again.

Viltteri, a balding guy in his thirties living in rural northern Finland, is hopelessly clueless about his new role as a married man and the father of a newborn son. A perfect escape from family responsibilities is having to get his old Hillman Minx repaired and inspected for road-worthiness, with a little help from an eccentric bunch of friends who never seem to have grown up either.

After the death of an old bandmate, the surviving musicians head to the funeral.

Uuno is forced to complete his mandatory military service when it is revealed that he only spent one day in the army in his youth. As is typical of the Turhapuro series his family and friends become closely tied in with these events. His friends Härski Hartikainen and Sörsselssön return to the army for a refresher course and by chance Uuno's father-in-law, Councillor Tuura is made the Finnish Defence Minister. In one of the most memorable scenes, Uuno's wife, Elisabeth, dresses as Uuno and substitutes him for a day as Uuno has an apparently urgent meeting (at a restaurant) and while becoming lost in the woods with a malfunctioning radio, Tuura accidentally declares war on Sweden.

In the summer of 1941, the Karelian youths Wist and Anttala decide to seek family silver hidden under Wist's home behind the border line of the truce.

During the spring harvest, a strange man arrives in the village on the shores of Lake Pielinen, carrying a rifle and a backpack. He is a skilled worker, a ruthless talker, and a ladies' man. By the time the autumn snow falls, the village has changed. No one can quite figure out the man. He calls himself Simpauttaja. Based on Heikki Turunen's award-winning debut novel, the film is a tragicomic portrayal of rural change.

Young hockey player Illu spends his summer in local restaurants, just like the stunning blonde Salme, with whom he and every man in town is in love.

The most famous work of the remarkable classic of Finnish literature Hella Wuolijoki is the saga of the Niskavuori family, consisting of five plays. The first of them, *"The Young Mistress of Niskavuori"*, which reflects the Finnish national character, tells the story of love, changes in life, disappointments, and views on morality through the eyes of straightforward, stubborn people from the countryside who must adapt to new circumstances. The action takes place in 1880.
