The Outcasts

A couple and their teenage son eke out a living on a hilltop, doing the laundry for local hotels, despite the intermittent water supply. Their simple life is overturned by the arrival of a father-and-daughter team of diviner and well-digger, who promise to bring an end to this precarious existence by finding a source on their arid hill. But ultimately, these newcomers quench a thirst far greater than than the simple need for water.

25 years ago, Nadezhda's mother deprived her of parental rights. She took her daughter's three children and began raising her grandchildren. Their grandmother became the children's only fond memory of their childhood. She's long gone, but Nadezhda's children still reminisce about the years they lived without their mother.

Georgi is a village builder contractor. He's honest and direct. His values and moral system often clash with contemporary society’s. Seen as crazy by some, he is a source of endless aphorisms to others. To live your life with dignity and without compromise in our time is heroic.
