To the Sea

In dreams, a mother is reunited with her deceased daughter. The daughter takes her mother by the hand, and leads her through darkness, to the edge of light. As they embrace, a new hope emerges, weaved together by a love that can’t be stopped, and a bond that never fades.

Fourteen-year-old Yao is sick of his worn-out shoes, which his father never replace for being too deep in debt. One day, after a confrontation with debt collectors, his father suddenly buys him a pair of expensive sneakers. Little did Yao know, this is the start of a painful tragedy.

"My goal is not education, but liberation." In February 2024, a filmmaking workshop takes place in Fukushima under the guidance of the Hungarian master, Béla Tarr. Observing him mentor the students offers a glimpse into his unique perspective on cinema and his profound approach to the art of film.

A filmmaking masterclass led by director Tarr Béla was held in Fukushima Prefecture in February 2024. Short films made there by the seven participants will be screened.
