In 1983, Franz Paludetto acquired Rivara Castle at the foot of the Italian Alps. A century earlier, artists from all over Europe had gathered here to establish the Rivara School of Painting. We witness the story of Italy during the latter half of the 20th century.

Pepsi is an individual in sexual transition looking for a stable job as a caregiver. Former member of MILF, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front active in an island of southern Philippines, she escaped from her country to work as a nurse for over 10 years in Gaddafi's Libya. Because of gender discrimination, she has been forced to join the flow of refugees.

Princesa is a young Nigerian woman who arrived in Sardinia as a victim of human trafficking. There is a syncretism on the island, between the beliefs of a primitive animism, traditional Christianity and the more recent faith of the Nigerian Evangelical church. Princesa's face reflects an inner world dominated by fear, the break with her own land, and the desire to make good in a new one. Footage shot during a Nigerian funeral rite and a sequence from a Nollywood drama both contain biographical traces of the lead character. Princesa has made a choice, but she is not yet free.

After losing his house for the reconstruction of the London 2012 Olympic Park, Michael is very busy in a campaign of resistance against Olympic games, and accepts the invitation from Enrico to register the narrating voice of a documentary about the Brazilian situation. Michael, in the middle of an existential crisis, leaves to find shelter in the Brazilian culture. While Enrico tries to explain him his vision of a magnificent country invaded by giant events, Marie, his fiancee, reaches him bringing with her more commitments and responsibilities. While learning to become a narrator, Michael progressively abandons his fear of death, and prepares to resist against the Oppressor, becoming the "Ultimo Cangaceiro". Brazil, today like in 1571, is a land to conquer, a prize for a war between two society models: estate and multinational promoters on the one side, housing strength and human rights defenders on the other.

Once upon a time, there was a castle on a mounting, with a man inside. The man placed all the conflict and all the beauty of the world inside the castle. His name was Franz. He came by foot from the Alps, leaving behind a history of violence, and he dedicated his life to the creation of a cenaculum for the arts to redeem himself from the trauma of fascism. Over the course of a ten-year story, as his latest young artist grows up, the gallery owner takes possession of her memories and approaches death.
