The footprints of the path is a socio-political documentary feature that analyzes the footprints left in the collective memory of the Ayacucho region (Peru) after the conflict that faced and continues to confront the Marxist Shining Path movement and the Peruvian State. It is a critical, dynamic and impressive documentary that delves into the depths of the suffering of a people and that does not give the viewer respite, placing him face to face with the protagonists of the conflict. This time, it will be the viewer who must draw their own conclusions.

1984, the peak of violence in the armed conflict in Peru. The Communist Party – Shining Path tries to consolidate its control in the Ayacucho region. But the district of Soras resists. Comrade José devises a plan to crush the resistance in Soras. A plan beyond anyone's imagination.

After 35 years of searching, the Carrión family finally buried the remains of their son Ricardo, whose body was exhumed from the La Hoyada site of the Los Cabitos Barracks in Ayacucho, a clandestine cemetery of the Peruvian Army during the 1980s.

Ayacucho, 1983. The government of Fernando Belaúnde Terry has just declared a state of emergency to combat the "people's war" launched by Shining Path. As a counterinsurgency strategy, the Army is establishing bases throughout the department. One of these first bases will be Totos. From that moment on, the Totos base will become a clandestine center for the detention, torture, and extrajudicial execution of suspected members of Shining Path.

A tribute to Vladimir Urbay, a young man detained, tortured, and extrajudicially executed in Huanta on November 2, 1983. He is one of the thousands of anonymous victims of the armed conflict. These are the victims who are not remembered by history, making their deaths, if possible, even more unjust, even more absurd.

On the night of May 13, 1988, a Shining Path column ambushed a Peruvian military convoy in the Cayara district of Ayacucho, killing four soldiers and wounding 15 others. In response to the attack, in the following days, military patrols tortured, executed, and disappeared around thirty people in Cayara. Now, every May 13, the people of Cayara commemorate the tragic events with a private vigil where they strengthen their community ties.
