Veteran horse trainer Henry Dailey (Rooney) sees boundless potential in young jockey Alec Ramsay (Richard Ian Cox), and as the two prepare to take Black Stallion to France to race in the Prix de Chantilly, an unforeseen tragedy forces Alec's French friend Nicole (Marianne Filali) to abandon the race in favor of caring for her ailing mother. As Alec and Henry prepare for the Prix de Chantilly, their situation is complicated by a series of shady businessmen and devious gamblers who are desperately attempting to fix the race.

A product of its time, this quasi-documentary film is about the emptiness of modern culture. A blizzard of 1950s and 1960s archival material -- such as television commercials, news broadcasts and comic book pages -- is presented as a way of illustrating the pretensions of what the filmmakers feel was a decadent era. A chronicle of the many and fleeting mid-20th-century American fads and trends is juxtaposed against society's attitude toward the different and unusual.

My Life as a Dog is a contemporary, half-hour Canadian TV series that aired in 1996 and ran for 22 episodes. It was based on the 1985 Swedish movie of the same name and developed for Canadian television by, among others, Reidar Jönsson, author of the original autobiographical book. It is the coming of age story of a young boy, brutally dragged away from his familiar universe into an unknown world. Though aimed at teens, it has been rated above the usual "infantile sitcoms". The series was shot on location in Winnipeg and Gimli, Manitoba. It was directed by Neill Fearnley and produced by Atlantis Films Limited and Credo Entertainment Group.

Shipwrecked on a Great Lake is the story of Ned Myers, the 24-year-old Canadian-American sailor who was one of the few survivors of the shipwreck of two warships, the Hamilton and the Scourge, in August 1813. Based on the story by James Fenimore Cooper, who appears as a character in the film.

The Campbells was a Scottish-Canadian television drama series, which aired on Scottish Television and CTV from 1986 to 1990. A historical family drama, the series starred Malcolm Stoddard as James Campbell, a Scottish doctor living in 1830s Upper Canada with his three children, Neil, Emma and John.

The narrative diverges from that of the novel in that Captain Smollett convinces Squire Trelawney and Doctor Livesey to cut Jim out of his rightful share of the treasure and so Jim then teams up with Silver.

He seeks out his twin, Frank Bentley to get a bite of his inheritance, but he's not the first long-lost brother to call. Barry stakes out across the street from Frank's home so he can spy and release the story to a tabloid paper. In the process, he begins an affair with Frank's mistreated wife.
