A Ravaging Wind

It tells two parallel stories: that of José Olaya (Ernesto Alterio), a young Asturian miner who is forced to emigrate to Argentina in 1934, using his brother Andrés’s identity and documents; and that of his son, Ernesto Olaya (Eduardo Blanco), a middle-aged Argentine architect who emigrates to Spain in 2001, also against his will, seeking a way out of the economic problems affecting his family.

Martin is a neurotic web designer taking baby steps out of the isolation of his one-room apartment and his virtual reality. Mariana is an artist fresh out of a long relationship. They are perfect for each other, live on the same street, in opposite buildings, but they never meet. Can the movement of a modern city of three million people bring them together?

Sixteen-year-old Lola is studying for her resits when the possibility of a semester in Germany comes up. Lola wants to go, but her family, bogged down by her elder sister's psychiatric problems, don't want her to make the trip. The lack of stability and exhaustion in the ties with her family prompt Lola to go ahead with her idea and set out to find new experiences that make her see both herself and the circumstances that surround her with different eyes.

He is a writer and Ángela, a mature woman, is his domestic employee. Since he can't find inspiration, he decides to accompany her on her work day to other houses. Thus, delving into other people's lives, both begin to stop seeing each other as strangers and have fun, momentarily forgetting their own problems for a while. Without romantic tensions, the two simply enjoy sharing the day and, while Ángela cannot stop remembering Pedro, her dead husband, he only listens. Without advice or sermons, their two visions come together to make, at least that day, a different experience.

Estela and her mother Clota must travel from Junín, where they live, to the town of Costa Bonita, in Necochea, to see some apartments that Estela's father has inherited from her.

Peter, a young German, enters a suburban Buenos Aires restaurant; seeking only directions, he instead accidentally ends up with a plate smashing into his head, thrown by the irritable Olinda, the 60 year-old Italian immigrant owner of the restaurant. The two develop a friendship once they discover that the reasons for their having moved to Argentina are strikingly similar.

Twenty-something Ana, now living in Buenos Aires, returns to her native city of Paraná. She meets old school mates, old friends, makes new ones, and starts to rethink her life, and perhaps change her future.

Film composed of nine short films. Short Stories 0, was released in 1993 and did not yet have that name because they were separate shorts. It would later become the prestigious annual short film competition for directors organized and produced by INCAA.

Late night. Ana is sleeping alone in a double bed. Her cellphone rings. Dazed, she turns on the bedside lamp to shake off her sleep. Reluctanly, she gets out of bed and, at 2 AM on one of those nights when you can see the vapor of your breath, she showers, gets dressed, puts on her makeup, walks to the avenue and takes a cab to the other side of town, so she can go deep into something more than the darkness of the night.

Suddenly, Roberto gets into the car. He's wet and hurt, he's tired of the rain, of broken dreams. He has come back after thirty years abroad. In this new city he has nothing and nobody, just a father in coma, whom he has no relationship. He promises to leave the car as soon as the rain ceases. Alma, not knowing exactly why lets him in. That night will be different. And the next few days too. There's something new to find in the depth of their hearts.
