Roko Markovina, a former socialist and unionist politician from the city of Mostar in Herzegovina, reflects on the situation in Croatia and Bosnia during wartime and about the fruitless efforts that he and his wife went through to get back their home that had been taken away from them by nationalist forces who exiled them from it.

“I had many friends before the war; many of them are dead now”, one of the narrators comments, looking at a photo of her classmates. “We had a perfect life, but we were never satisfied,” she adds laconically. The secondary school in Mostar united them, the War of Independence divided them. This mosaic of memories of the early 1990s is composed of contemporary postcards and silent shots of places where wars were once fought. Their calmness today contrasts with the emotional excerpts from the letters of the Croatian students. They describe their flight across the border, their experiences in refugee camps, and their lingering hatred of the enemies who robbed them of their home and youth.

A three-member television crew from Zagreb comes to the island of Hvar to do an interview with Boris Buncuga, also known as Lavanderman, the first islandic superhero who fights againts moths, mosquitoes, insomnia, headache and vertigo with his lavander powers. Boris gained nationwide popularity after the publication of two comic books about his adventures, but he has so far stubbornly refused to talk to the press. It soon becomes clear why this time Boris bowed: Lavanderman does not hide his affection for the beautiful female journalist. In the meantime, through conversations with a number of characters, complemented by archival footage and narration, we learn the truth about this comic book hero.

Željka is a 40-year-old woman, living a quiet life in an isolated village. An unexpected visit will take her back to the past, shaking up her daily routine.

The story begins when we learn that the lives of the main characters, although quite different and seemingly unrelated, are actually intertwined on multiple levels. Through a series of unfortunate circumstances, a great friendship and business partnership of Matko and Zoran rudely ended.

The main character is a cop who browses trough the streets and city's underground where he finds himself in a series of unsolved murders, drugs, smugglers, corrupt government officials, sex, hookers and blackmail. His Name is Marko Prilika - called Cens (Chance). Even though he's a cop, he's no stranger in a world of cocaine use and hookers.
