Wo ist der Bahnhof?

Eight newspaper-columns by Dutch writer Simon Carmiggelt were turned into a film in honor of his 70st birthday.

A film crew whose members can't stand each other is trying to make a slapstick comedy in the style of Buster Keaton. It's about Boy, who runs a failing desert service station. Things get even worse when a business competitor arrives.

Pauw & Witteman is a Dutch late-night talk show, hosted by Jeroen Pauw en Paul Witteman. It is generally focused on current affairs and politics. It is broadcast every weekday at 11 pm on Nederland 1. It is produced by Dutch public broadcasters NPS and VARA. Irony conceals jest behind seriousness, and satire conceals seriousness behind jest, and here you will find all these genres together: jest, satire, and irony (according to the Brown Spelling Book) about language and literature, readers and writers, doers and whiners. Profound and superficial. Licentious and literary.

Which includes the parody of the seventies craze of the sensitivity training, the simplistiese on culture, the stencil war, the slide with the clowns. And of course many other highlights from the first carpet-beater-years. Additional seen on this DVD: the four cinema advertising films that Lord Koot and Lord Bie made to promote the Postgiro. (The material on part 10 was aired between 1974 and 1976 by the VPRO television.)

Warning - Now that we no longer view men and women as objects of desire, thank God, it is good to remember how unrestrained things were in the Netherlands long before the restoration of Christian norms and values in 2007/2008. In twenty-seven scenes, which have never before been released on video or DVD—and which you have therefore never seen, not even once on VPRO television—the boundaries of sexual ethics and the resilience of our physical relationships are explored by Walter de Rochebrune and De Vieze Man, Carla and Frank van Putten, Ralph and Thea Ternauw, Jet and Koosje Veenendaal, F. Jacobse and Tedje van Es, Dirk, Koos Koets, Koot and Bie, and about twenty-five other reprehensible, white Dutch people. And this for over a hundred minutes.
