Polizeiruf 110 is a long-running German language detective television series. The first episode was broadcast 27 June 1971 in the German Democratic Republic, and after the dissolution of Fernsehen der DDR the series was picked up by ARD. It was originally created as a counterpart to the West German series Tatort, and quickly became a public favorite.

Tatort is a long-running German/Austrian/Swiss crime television series set in various parts of these countries. The show is broadcast on the channels of ARD in Germany, ORF in Austria and SF1 in Switzerland.

After his daughter died of cancer, former French foreign legionnaire "Straight Shooter" alias Volker Bretz threatens those who financed, built, favoured and now work the nuclear power plant Atar II to kill one of them each day until the plant is shut down. His former drill sergeant, Frank Hector, who now owns several night clubs and brothels, is the only one who might be able to stop the maniac killing specialist. Frank is flown in instantly, but soon has to find out that his former comrade's actions might be a result from an event long ago.

Fun-loving Miri is a genius with numbers. She puts this talent to good use in her job at the town bank in the small village of Hattenstein, where she actively helps her often overburdened boss. When a local winegrower is found dead in a wooded area, she also develops a penchant for detective work. The policeman Nils, one of her old schoolmates, believes it was a sudden heart attack. But Miri's extraordinary powers of deduction tell her that there is something fishy about the case. With the moral support of her ownerless dachshund, Frauchen, she uncovers a large-scale crime in which even the mayor of the town seems to be involved.

The movie is a deeply black comedy about marriage. Not a single word is spoken, but the killing is all the more rigorous. It is the unusual story of a married couple who constantly try to get each other killed out of love-hate. But the murderous couple has done the math without their daughter, who pursues her own dark goals.
