After the end of the Civil War, nurse and intelligence officer Anna Dzyuba returns to her hometown with her commissar husband. Here she has to make a difficult choice between ideological associates who establish Soviet power and childhood friends associated with the anti-Soviet underground.

The film recreates the heroic epic of the defense of Sevastopol in 1941-1942. The fall of 1941. Having broken through the defense at Perekop and seized Crimea, the fascist troops begin the siege of Sevastopol. The Soviet fleet is withdrawn to Novorossiysk. For the defense of Sevastopol remained only guns of ships, coastal batteries and several detachments of marines, the defense is led by General Petrov.

Lasunskaya is determined to make the ornament of his salon. During the two months that Rudin spends at Lasunskaya's, he becomes indispensable to her. But Rudin's misfortune is that while he inflames others, he himself remains as cold as ice, never thinking that his words "may confuse and destroy a young heart".
