The story of Marshal Vasily Konstantinovich, a dedicated Red Army commander who was killed in Stalin's "purges." The film attempts to study the fate of the country through his biography, and unlock the riddle of the show trials of the thirties.

One family, one band. They seemed to be happy. A movie that investigates why these seemingly optimistic musicians suddenly saw no hope to continue living in USSR and tried to escape it by hijacking a plane.

The Empire collapsed, human relations and moral values collapsed. Crime and bandits were everywhere. And ordinary people were concerned about how to survive. This period was called perestroika. The people call this time a troubled time. The film reviews social processes from within, not from the outside propaganda side. On the last in Russia narrow-gauge railway (UZhD), the felled timber is taken out. Together with the felled forest, the villages located nearby also perish. The void from the felling that has taken over everything around is getting closer and closer to the village where the heroes of the film live.

Life in the provinces is a special world, a special way of life, a special relationship that is different from that in the big cities. Everyone here knows each other, and almost everything about each other. Everything here is like under a magnifying glass. The patriarchal way of life has changed little in recent years with technical progress. The old and the new. Everything here that is ugly bulges out with a vengeance, but the good things also do not go unnoticed. This film is a parable: a story about Russia, about the customs that prevail in the modern village.

During the war, children, along with adults, worked in the fields and factories, shouldering household chores on their fragile shoulders. Many of them died from disease and lack of food. There was a severe famine, people were swollen from malnutrition, and in order not to die, they ate grass cakes and porridge with sawdust. "Everything for the front, everything for victory!" it was the slogan of the time. Despite the difficulties, they did not lose heart, worked hard and believed in victory over fascism.

Filming for this picture took place in Russia over the course of a quarter of a century: in 2000, 2010 and 2022. The film is preceded by an epigraph: “The fate of every person depends on the country where they live, just as the fate of a country depends on its citizens”.
