Van Gogh: la follia della notte

The owner of a building tyrannizes his immigrant tenants. Transformed into a dog by an old woman's curse, he experiences all the hardships of his situation; when a child's affection turns him back into a man, his soul is radically changed.

Hélène and Aldo Giovanni are a circus trapeze double act and a couple. Aldo is temporarily replaced by former-partner Alexandre when the former is injured. The two get into a fight and the following day Alexandre is discovered dead. Hélène suspects her husband is responsible for the murder.

Hyacinth, a former matador who lives miserably with his nephew Pepote, receives a letter reminding him that, as agreed a few days before, he must participate in a bullfight to be held that same afternoon.

Three stories, very different in space and time. Lysistrata, a dancer from ancient times, Jeanne d'Arc, medieval warrior and Elisabeth, American war widow who comes on pilgrimage in Italy.

The story of the last years of Van Gogh's life seen throungh his paintings and the new climate of Provence. Guided by these last paintings, the documentary follows the sinister stages of his madness step by step.
