Thirteen-year-old Jonas Ettenberger's parents were killed in a traffic accident. Now the Hamburg city boy has to live with his grandfather in the deepest Bavarian province by order of the youth welfare office. The boy finds it difficult to get used to country life and the Bavarian dialect, as does his widowed grandfather to his grandson, whom he has only just met. But Jonas quickly makes friends with his new classmate Julia Stelzer. In the meantime, Harald Messner, Jonas' uncle, finds out that his nephew has inherited a lot of money. Although he also lives in affluence in Munich, he and especially his new wife Sonja hope to get even more money through Jonas. They appeal to the youth welfare office for custody of the boy and are proved right. Jonas has to return to Munich, even though he is now very happy with Grandpa Ludwig and his housekeeper Rosi.

Honesty is the best? The original comedy tells of a farmer's clever family, which comes to this insight after some confusion. Director and author Thomas Kronthaler packages a fine morality about money, family ties and charity with a black sense of humor and a sense of subtle punchlines. In addition to Saskia Vester and Heinz-Josef Braun, who is mainly known through the films of Marcus H. Rosenmüller, shines not least the multi-award winning Gertrud Roll as a clever senior.

Universes meet: Jule Ronstedt as a woman, who is a mystery of the world of numbers, and Alexander Beyer as astrophysicists collect the stars together from the sky. In 1964, young Julia Welling is sent to Bavaria to create and manage a home for children. For the past of her father (a member of the Nazi party) Julia now defends the values of democracy and wants children to be treated like whole persons. Her first days in Bavaria are difficult because the people are very conservative: when she notices some parents beating their children, she steps in and they don't understand her intervention. She meets a young American officer who is organizing the end of US occupation forces in Germany; he helps her get a former military installator for her new children's home. She manages to install the home and begin her activities, but one night a violent farmer tries to burn down the building because she has protected his son.
